5 Top tips to help keep your home safe while you're on holiday
Don’t leave spare keys outside
Some people are surprisingly good at finding spare keys, especially when they are in the obvious spots like under a rock. Before heading away on your holiday, remove all the spare keys from outside your home.
Secure windows and doors
Doors and windows are the most vulnerable areas of your home. Double-check all your locks before you leave on holiday, but here are a few additional tips: unplug your garage door opener, so people can’t open it with a universal remote and secure sliding doors with a long piece of wood or metal placed between the door and the wall.
Arrange to have your lawn maintained while you’re on holiday and see if your neighbour could take out and bring in your rubbish on collection days.
Ask a friend to house sit
Instead of making it look like someone’s at home, you can hire a trustworthy house sitter to actually be at your home while you’re away. The majority of burglaries occur because people recognise when a home is empty and vulnerable, but with a house sitter, your home will always be occupied
Avoid posting on social media
If you’re going to post your vacation on social media, try to do it privately, with a group of friends and family that you completely trust.
